In the real estate world, it is no secret that home inspectors and real estate agents do not always see eye to eye. But at the heart of the matter, the role of the home inspector is clear: To provide clients with accurate, unbiased information so they can make their own informed decisions about a property, regardless of whether they are planning to buy or sell. Professional conduct requires inspectors to stick to the facts: Pointing out defects, safety issues, and maintenance concerns, etc, without stepping into the realm of personal opinion.

One of the most common challenges arises when clients directly ask, "Do you think we should buy this house?" While it may seem like a natural question, it is considered unprofessional for an inspector to answer. The reason is simple: Inspectors are not there to give investment advice, negotiate on behalf of the buyer, or influence the purchase decision. Our job is to deliver a detailed, objective assessment of the home's condition, leaving you free to weigh that information against your own needs, budget, and goals.

Maintaining neutrality is essential to protecting the integrity of the profession. The inspector's role is to be a trusted source of information, and not to be a deal-maker or deal-breaker. By keeping personal opinions about whether a property is "worth buying" out of the conversation, we uphold both ethical standards and your trust.
